Travel is Magic, it Can Change Your Mind

Change is as good as a holiday

I love travel. I love the sensations of new places and people. The temperature changes are interesting to me. I notice the noise and sound of new places, I like the odd hums, echoes, thuds or shouts. Smells seem intensified, my brain works hard to identify new scents. I like the change of time, humidity, language, currency and simplicity of only having the stuff you brought with you.

Travel is an Etchy-Sketch for my brain

I love how travel shifts perspective. Flights are no-mans-land; that’s where I do my best dreaming and thinking. People watching is my favourite. A sneak peek into other people lives sets my brain alight with questions. Talking to strangers is easier when it is not your home and being a stranger is freedom. Travel clears my mind and fills it up, all that the same time.

Good for Gratitude

Travel reminds me to be grateful. It’s like a gift that reminds us what is important. That we are blessed to be from NZ, to be fed, clothed, healthy and safe. When I go to remote places I often think, who are they calling in an emergency? I accept I will leave not really knowing exactly what life is like for the people, but I am grateful for a glimpse.

Adventure is in the eye of the beholder

It doesn’t have to be grand, but it does need to be different. Different for you and a change from your everyday life. No Everest needed, no Antarctica necessary but novelty and a little discomfort works wonders. Just a little stretch into the known cam make home taste pretty sweet.

Food gets the final word

Food is fun when you travel. You have to try it all, no rules apply. You can have ice-cream for breakfast, and coffee after dinner, try deep fried anything and sample some new spices if you feel daring. Street food is for the brave. Take your own coffee if you must. Eating local delicacies with the locals mean you connect in a different way, and culinary. Food is the icing on the cake of all good adventures.

Travel is magic, it can change your mind.
